Nama Water Services enhances network efficiency, reduces water loss across Oman
• OMR 44 million investment strengthens water systems and supports urban growth
• 1,200km of networks rehabilitated across governorates
• Over 45,000 household connections replaced to improve reliability
Muscat -- Nama Water Services has stepped up efforts to enhance the efficiency of water networks and reduce water loss through a series of strategic rehabilitation programmes implemented across the Sultanate’s governorates.
The initiatives form part of the company’s broader commitment to strengthening the reliability of water supply and supporting sustainable urban development, in line with the growing demand for water services.
In recent years, water infrastructure projects have evolved beyond their traditional engineering scope to play a central role in improving quality of life and ensuring the long-term sustainability of cities. Water networks remain a critical component in delivering potable water safely and efficiently, while also contributing to environmental protection and public health.
Within this context, Nama Water Services has completed a wide-ranging programme to rehabilitate approximately 1,200 kilometres of water networks, alongside the replacement of more than 45,000 household connections. The projects, implemented over a period of 20 months, represent a total investment of RO 44 million.
Eng. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Chief Executive Officer of Operations and Maintenance, said the projects reflect the company’s continued focus on enhancing operational efficiency and modernising infrastructure.
“Network rehabilitation and maintenance are key to improving the overall performance of the water system. At Nama Water Services, we are adopting an integrated approach that combines infrastructure development with advanced technologies, including proactive maintenance and digital solutions,” he said.
Al Nuaimi added that these efforts contribute directly to improving service reliability and reducing water loss, while supporting the sustainable expansion of water and wastewater networks across Oman.
He noted that the rehabilitation works covered several governorates, including Muscat (300 km), North Al Batinah (202 km), South Al Batinah (194 km), Al Dakhiliyah (152 km), South Al Sharqiyah (over 136 km), Al Dhahirah (95 km), Al Buraimi (73 km), Musandam (34 km), and North Al Sharqiyah (over 6 km).
In parallel, the company implemented a programme to replace household connections linking customer meters to the main distribution network. More than 45,000 connections were upgraded, contributing to improved network performance and more reliable service delivery.
According to Al Nuaimi, the projects also support the company’s efforts to strengthen water security in Oman by improving resource management and reducing technical and commercial losses.
“These initiatives are designed not only to upgrade infrastructure, but also to deliver a tangible impact on people’s daily lives by providing more stable and efficient services,” he said.
He further highlighted that Nama Water Services is continuing to modernise its systems through the installation of advanced digital meters and the integration of smart technologies, enabling better monitoring, data accuracy and operational decision-making.
The projects are being implemented through phased plans based on data analysis and prioritisation, ensuring that interventions achieve maximum impact in improving network efficiency and sustainability.
Nama Water Services continues to align its operations with international best practices, focusing on delivering reliable, efficient and sustainable water services that meet the needs of communities across the Sultanate.
